Tulip fields cycling tour

Do you like cycling, or do you want to try it out? This bike tour might be the one for you. The start of the tour is at Lisse, a small town near Amsterdam, which makes it a perfect day trip when visiting Amsterdam.

Where can I find the Flower Bulb Region?

Hop on the bike and explore Lisse! Less than an hour away from Amsterdam is Lisse, the heart of the Flower Bulb Region. This town is home to the world-famous Keukenhof and is also where the tour will start. The Flower Bulb Region is also where the annual flower parade takes place. At this huge event, cars decorated with large bouquets of flowers, accompanied by music and entertainment, drive through the heart of the bulb region.

A visit at “De Tulperij”

After a bit of cycling through Lisse, you pass by De Tulperij. Here, you can walk around the showgarden and take a lot of fun pictures. If you want to sit down after the cycling, you can enjoy a cup of coffee with a Dutch treat at the cosy flower greenhouse. If the weather is nice, you can sit down at the amazing terrace overlooking the showgarden.

A visit to Keukenhof’s castle

After all those flower fields, the bike tour is not finished yet. To finish off, we take a turn to the historic estate Keukenhof Castle. Between the flower fields, there is a beautiful historic castle, a core feature of the region. The castle belongs to Keukenhof, whose influences can still be seen in gardens that showcase centuries of landscaping styles. For this reason, we will also cycle along this beautiful castle. At the beginning and end of the season, you may even have the chance to walk one of the many walking trails!

When can I visit the Tulip fields?

When to visit the Tulip fields, depends heavily on the weather conditions and when you visit the Netherlands. You can count on the flowering period from the end of March to mid-May. If you visit the Flower Region at the beginning of the season, the chances are high that you will not only see tulips but also daffodils and hyacinths. Near the end of the Tulip season, it is more likely to see tulips in a variety of colors.
