If you’re visiting Keukenhof, you can’t miss out on the typical Dutch town of Lisse. The town is primarily known for the Keukenhof Gardens, a flower exhibition and park which is visited by over 1 million tourists every year, making it one of the most popular tourist attractions in the country.  But did you know that Lisse has a lot to offer? This post will tell you everything you need to know about Lisse!

Lisse and the Dutch Bulb Region

The best way to get around in Lisse and the Bulb Region is by bike because everything is relatively close. Exploring the Bulb Region by bike means there is always something new to see. For example, if you go down one path, there may be a beautiful Tulip or Hyacinth field. If you go down another path, there might be an old windmill or a castle!

We recommend biking through the Dutch Bulb Region at least once in your life! You’ll never forget it—and neither will your friends! This is one of the many reasons why you should book a tour with Tulip Bicycle Tour!

The black Tulip

The Black Tulip Museum is a must-visit if you’re looking for a unique experience. The museum tells the story of flower bulb cultivation, bulb export and the growing process. It also shows how Tulipomania was brought to Lisse by Dutch Tulip growers.

The museum is filled with a variety of exhibits that will make you feel like you’re walking through time as well as get to know interesting facts about Tulips and flowers in general! You can learn about how these plants have been used throughout history for medical purposes or simply enjoyed by people all over Europe (and beyond).

In the museum, you can go back 500 years in time and discover how the bulb Region developed into what it is today. Also, the interactive exhibition tells the science behind the different Tulip varieties. This probably explains the name of the museum. The Black Tulip has fascinated people for centuries. Ever since the beginning of Tulipomania in the Netherlands, around the 17th century, various Tulip growers tried to grow a real black Tulip. Until now, they have not succeeded. To this day, a mystery remains about the black Tulip.

Note: We won’t visit the museum during the bicycle tour. However, feel free to stop by the Black Tulip Museum after the tour. You can book your tickets through the website of the museum.

The church of the bulb region

If you ever get the chance to visit the bulb fields of Keukenhof, one thing that will stand out is the many church towers that are visible on the horizon. The tallest of these towers is that of the St. Agatha Church, located in the center of Lisse. This church means a lot to this region, and it’s definitely worth a visit!

Once you walk around, you’ll discover the various drawings with bulb flowers on the walls of this beautiful building. These drawings are on display in the church because the church used to have a lot of significance in the bulb farming industry. During the construction (around 1903) the church was co-financed by the bulb growers in Lisse.

To put it simply, Lisse is a beautiful town that won’t disappoint. The town has so many to offer. You could spend a whole day biking around and never feel bored. The Tulip Bicycle Tour is a great way to experience Lisse and will leave you wanting to come back soon.
